SKINCARE 101: Now first things first…make-up is a wonderful thing! However, it looks even better on good skin. So, ladies please take care of your skin. The first thing everyone sees when they look at you is your face…be good to it.
MOISTURIZER 101: Moisturizer is sooooooooo important! I can’t stress to you enough how important this is! No matter how old you are it is of utmost importance to keep a moisturizer handy and apply through-out the day. As you mature you’ll have a happier face, and thank yourself later. I go into greater detail on this topic in my skincare article…stay tuned.
FOUNDATION 101: Foundation can be a scary subject, but let’s address it! Bottom line…it’s your face and your face deserves the proper research, and information to determine what works best for you. Here’s my rule of thumb: first of all when it comes to skin tone none of us are one skin tone! The color of your face is divided upon multiple measures. For example the center of your face is usually lighter than the outer perimeters of your face. Also, your face usually carries multiple tones for many reasons. It could be from lack of care, sun burn, change in the weather, pregnancy, dark spots, and/or the most common reason acne. With this said…there is no way a solid color in a bottle could ever be the perfect match for anyone. In the real world of professional make-up to complete a make-over, there are at least 2 colors used. Sometimes these colors are mixed together, and sometimes used separately and placed on the face at different times during the make-over process. When it comes to purchasing foundation…invest in yourself. Buy 2 shades lighter than your complexion, a shade that you believe to be your color, and a shade darker than your complexion. After you get these products, go home while the excitement is still burning inside, and sit in front of the mirror. Get 3 separate small containers (something to pour or scoop the product into) for testers. Mixed the colors together: mix a light with a dark, a dark with the lightest color, apply them separately. Around the time you finish experimenting, you will have put together something that you'll like…if not LOVE!
POWDER 101: Powder can be tricky, and this I know! I can’t stand it when I see a women’s face and she looks like a ghost! This happens when you buy a powder that is too light, too dark, not applied properly, and/or it’s just plain and simply NOT the right color. If you are not sure when it comes to powder or a product to set your foundation…stay safe. My suggestion, stick to translucent powders. This product is colorless and marries well with any foundation.
CONCEALER 101: Concealer…what can I say besides, I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!! It helps to control and hide all the problem areas in your face. Also, it’s wonderful for highlighting…using it for highlight draws attention to the eyes and helps to open them up. So rule of thumb when it comes to concealer…there are none!! Go crazy with it! I love this product! I usually buy and wear 2-3 shades lighter, and 2-3 shades darker. It depends on my mood, and if I’m feeling adventurous or not. I prefer cream based concealers…to me they are easier to control. Concealer is also a great product to use for contouring. Like I said…I love this product!
BLUSH 101: Blush…another wonderful product! This is an easy product to use and always fun to apply. The rule of thumb when applying blush: look straight in the mirror and smile (how fun is that already), start your brush stroke at the center base end of your ear and lightly dust forward. Repeat this application to your desire. I personally like reds, pinks, burgundy, browns and tawny oranges.
