The Application of a Diva...

HOW TO APPLY MAKE-UP STEP by STEP

Strictly for my Eye Lash Diva

Dear Eyelash Diva:

Let’s keep it real…there’s no such thing as a real make-over without false eyelashes. Eye lashes are essential! In my opinion eyelashes are one of the most beautiful parts of a make-over!

Eyelashes are created in all sizes, shapes and colors. They are specifically designed to change the look of your face and to open up your eyes. However, a bad application, and/or wrong choice in selecting eyelashes has the ability to break a good look…it also has the ability to turn a bad look around.

In my opinion eyelashes should be viewed like the season: winter, spring, summer and fall. As we are subject to change in our mood and vibes, as such should be done with wearing eyelashes.

In the process of selecting eyelashes, this should be a well thought out subject. As in my belief, considering there are so many choices…lashes should be chosen appropriately according to the occasion. For example, a daily lash for work in an office space should be short – medium and simple (color-black). An appropriate eyelash for an evening look varies depending on the subject of the evening. This is why it is important to take your time and chose wisely.

My recommendation is to select a standard (whatever is standard to you) short, medium, and long lash. The short lash would be appropriate for your everyday conservative woman and occasions. The medium lash would be appropriate for the conservative, but sassy lady…which is appropriate for an evening look as well. The long lash is always appropriate for an evening look. It can also be appropriate in a conservative environment, BUT only for the bold, sassy and secure woman…bottom line, for a woman who just don’t give a “you know what”! Needless to say…I wear long lashes just about everyday! He-He-He!

However, to each is its own. When selecting an eyelash for your personal self this is serious business. You have to be honest with yourself, because if you are not comfortable it will show. There’s nothing worse than being out, after trying something new and feeling insecure. So, choose wisely.

Eyelashes have personality and character. Each design has a different vibe that usually encourages sass, sexy and has the strong ability to boost self-esteem for women. Each hair strand is purposely designed to give you a different outlook on your inner self. So let’s get started!

Here’s my formula on how to choose the right lash:

 Look through a few magazines to get some ideas
 Study the lash (take your time)
 Make sure it looks real (I recommend 100% human hair)
 Shop around – variety is best
 Stick to black lashes until you decided what works best for you
 If the hair looks too shiny – PUT IT DOWN
 Purchase 2 small, 2 medium, and 2 long (go home, play dress up and decide on your short lashes, medium lashes, long lashes and write the numbers down)

Now that we have lashes…!

Here’s my rule of thumb:

 Short lashes are great for the conservative and for an everyday look
 Medium lashes are risky…they are a bit broader and meant to grab attention. These lashes are great for evening wear, however can still be considered slightly conservative or natural for night life
 Long lashes are the bomb! They are designed to demand attention, and will not take no for an answer! These lashes are perfect for night life and at any event that requires you to be bold, sassy, and sexy!

How to apply Eyelashes:

The application of eyelashes can be very tricky. So be careful, and handle with much care.

The best way to remove the lash from its packaging is to slightly bend the corner of the lash that you are removing, and then pull with care.

Once you’ve removed both lashes, pour a few drops of glue on the disposable packaging and swab the glue slightly with a cosmetic q-tip.

Take the q-tip and rub glue on the eye lash from one end to the other (from Left to Right).

Fan or blow on the lash a few times to help dry the glue.

Place eye lash precisely from one end of your eye lash to the other and press firmly.

Once this is all done…look in the mirror!

Awe shucks! Diva, you’ve done it again!

Now go show it off…!

Smooches,

Zsa Zsa's Make-Up Law 101

SKINCARE 101: Now first things first…make-up is a wonderful thing! However, it looks even better on good skin. So, ladies please take care of your skin. The first thing everyone sees when they look at you is your face…be good to it.

MOISTURIZER 101: Moisturizer is sooooooooo important! I can’t stress to you enough how important this is! No matter how old you are it is of utmost importance to keep a moisturizer handy and apply through-out the day. As you mature you’ll have a happier face, and thank yourself later. I go into greater detail on this topic in my skincare article…stay tuned.

FOUNDATION 101: Foundation can be a scary subject, but let’s address it! Bottom line…it’s your face and your face deserves the proper research, and information to determine what works best for you. Here’s my rule of thumb: first of all when it comes to skin tone none of us are one skin tone! The color of your face is divided upon multiple measures. For example the center of your face is usually lighter than the outer perimeters of your face. Also, your face usually carries multiple tones for many reasons. It could be from lack of care, sun burn, change in the weather, pregnancy, dark spots, and/or the most common reason acne. With this said…there is no way a solid color in a bottle could ever be the perfect match for anyone. In the real world of professional make-up to complete a make-over, there are at least 2 colors used. Sometimes these colors are mixed together, and sometimes used separately and placed on the face at different times during the make-over process. When it comes to purchasing foundation…invest in yourself. Buy 2 shades lighter than your complexion, a shade that you believe to be your color, and a shade darker than your complexion. After you get these products, go home while the excitement is still burning inside, and sit in front of the mirror. Get 3 separate small containers (something to pour or scoop the product into) for testers. Mixed the colors together: mix a light with a dark, a dark with the lightest color, apply them separately. Around the time you finish experimenting, you will have put together something that you'll like…if not LOVE!

POWDER 101: Powder can be tricky, and this I know! I can’t stand it when I see a women’s face and she looks like a ghost! This happens when you buy a powder that is too light, too dark, not applied properly, and/or it’s just plain and simply NOT the right color. If you are not sure when it comes to powder or a product to set your foundation…stay safe. My suggestion, stick to translucent powders. This product is colorless and marries well with any foundation.

CONCEALER 101: Concealer…what can I say besides, I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!! It helps to control and hide all the problem areas in your face. Also, it’s wonderful for highlighting…using it for highlight draws attention to the eyes and helps to open them up. So rule of thumb when it comes to concealer…there are none!! Go crazy with it! I love this product! I usually buy and wear 2-3 shades lighter, and 2-3 shades darker. It depends on my mood, and if I’m feeling adventurous or not. I prefer cream based concealers…to me they are easier to control. Concealer is also a great product to use for contouring. Like I said…I love this product!

BLUSH 101: Blush…another wonderful product! This is an easy product to use and always fun to apply. The rule of thumb when applying blush: look straight in the mirror and smile (how fun is that already), start your brush stroke at the center base end of your ear and lightly dust forward. Repeat this application to your desire. I personally like reds, pinks, burgundy, browns and tawny oranges.
